Qutub Minar was erected in 1192 by sultan Mohammad Ghori's viceroy, Qutbuddin Aibak, to celebrate their victory over the Rajputs at Mehrauli in South Delhi.
The Qutub Minar is 73 mt. high and consists of five stories. This is just outside the central courtyard of the Quwatul Islam Masjid, the earliest extant mosque in North India. Qutb - ud - Din built the first three and his son - in - law Iltutmish embellished these and added a fourth. Within the Qutub complex is the 7mts. The high Iron pillar that draws tourists because of the popular belief that if you encircle the pillar with your arms, your wishes will come true. The Iron of high purity has not rusted even after 2000 years.
