This 42 mts high, freestanding arch was designed by the English architect Edwin Lutyens and built in 1931. It was originally called All India War Memorial, in memory of the 85,000 Indian army soldiers who died in World War. Under the arch is the Amar Jawan Jyoti, commemorating Indian armed forces (the losses of the) in the Indo – Pak War of 1971. To the northwest of India Gate are two impressive buildings, Hyderabad House and Baroda House. Built as a residence for the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Gaekwad of Baroda, they are now used as offices.
