1 Km. To the west of the Red Fort is the magnificent Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India and the last great architecture work of Shah Jahan, Intended to dwarf all mosques that have gone before it. Its step leads down to crowded bazaars on all sides. Even the eastern front, with the ceremonial entrance getaway, is smothered in a hive of shops. It has three gateways, four angle towers and two minarets standing 40 mts. The Jama Masjid is much simpler in its ornamentations than Shah Jahan’s secular buildings, a Judicious blend of red sandstone and white marble, which are interspersed in the domes, minaret and cusped arches. All these features are intended to emphasize the architecture merits of the buildings rather than to merely act as decoration. The courtyard of the mosque can hold 25,0000 people. The views in all directions are superb
